Your Hosts

Mort has spent much of his life hunting and guiding in the New Zealand bush. He was a professional hunter for many years both shooting and capturing deer and trapping opossums. He has represented New Zealand at trap shooting several times and has been actively involved in training young shooters. Mort is a member of Safari Club International is an official SCI trophy measurer and a member of the NZ Professional Hunting Guides Association.

Mel has spent most of her life in the hospitality and restaurant industries hosting small intimate groups to large formal weddings. She spent many years perfecting game cuisine over a campfire for hungry hunters in remote New Zealand bush country. This environment flamed her passion for New Zealand cuisine incorporating the succulent and healthy taste of the wild with distinctive pacific flavours, ocean fresh bounty and home grown organic produce.

Mort and Mel are hospitable, innovative and visionary. They worked tirelessly to build Kuranui Lodge and are passionate about being able to offer guests a welcome haven.
