Dear Mort and Mel
I love being apound people with a passion for their chosen endeavour and this was evident when you spoke of Kuranui. The four of us own and manage our companies and we arrived at the end of a long winter overshadowed by the recession and we were just plain weary. I organised the trip to Kuranui for the conference, but also to take us totally out of our normal range of experience physically and to satisfy an urge to experience the New Zealand bush and to try our hand at hunting and shooting. Right from the start when we drove in and saw one of the trophy stags swaggering along the bush edge we knew we were in for a fantastic time. Kevin's eyes nearly popped out of his head! Thanks for putting him on the rifle first thing Saturday. Bruce and I were hanging well back in the bush as Mort, Colin and Kevin stalked the stag and his harem and it was like having a grandstand view. When Kevin shot and his stag dropped, it was a great moment. For each of us to have deer hanging in the chiller by the end of Saturday was fantastic and a testiment to Mort, the best Hunting Guide this side of the black stump. You should both be proud of the achievment Kuranui represents. The fact that you have built such a beautiful straw bale lodge together, complete with native timbers milled from weather bomb downed trees on the property and hammered virtually every nail yourselves is amazing. We loved sitting around the fire, exaggerating the day's events over fine wine, and relishing Mellies cooking. Looking over Mellies shoulder as she prepared some of the best meals I have ever had, was like having personal cooking lessons with Jamie Oliver. Mel refers to her cooking style as "country", well bring it on. The guys are all foodies and we just couldn't have enjoyed the beautifully presented meals more. Four deer in the chiller was a great result for a bunch of novice hunters but we really had to work for them didn't we? Thanks for giving a bunch of city slickers an experience we will never forget. It was outstanding!
Kindest regards

Thank you also for the outstanding hospitality and relaxed atmosphere you provided for our stay. I think you have created a world standard lodge and it is wonderful to see there is even more potential to keep developing this haven.

Just a note of thanks and appreciation for the weekend spent with you both at your beautiful lodge. My friends and I had the best time possible and enjoyed a fabulous weekend of fine hunting and cuisine. Your low key friendly approach belied the obvious professionalism and dedication you bring to Kuranui and your guests are assured of a great time. The hunt was challenging and rewarding and the knowledge and skills displayed by you, our hosts, an impressive eye opener for this first timer. After the hunt what better way to celebrate than to come back to your lovely lodge, sit around the fire with a glass of wine and great company and look forward to one of Mel's culinary delights. We were well fed and well entertained all weekend and I left Kuranui with an uplifted spirit for the great experience I had. I know my friends feel the same way I do. Once again many thanks for a fine weekend.

Thank you so much for your incredibly warm hospitality - it has been such a pleasure and privilege to be engaged by your passion and enthusiasm for all of the various projects and attributes here at Kuranui. You share with such generosity, we have felt welcomed and at home from the moment we arrived. The pleasures of the hunting, the stalk, the successful shooting and the trophies are a credit to Mort's skills and passion and the warmth and hospitality at the lodge (Mel's cooking, care and warmth) make this a truly unique experience. Best wishes as you continue to create this wonderful experience. Kia kaha.

Thankyou Mort and Mel for your amazing hospitality, encouragement and your very flattering comments. I felt I was a bit wasted due to my apparently never ending workload so I was a bit run down when I arrived but you made us all feel so welcome and thanks for your wonderful farm, park and lodge creation, interesting stories, amazing food and teacher/training, it all came together so well. I will try and find a way to get my two sons down your way one day.
